VMworld 2013 – Day 1

Another busy day at the Vmworld conference and we were to party to an interesting keynote with some announcements in line with what we expect from Barcelona.

Pat Gelsinger announced more news of the SDN with a focus on the storage and network stack and had Martin Casado briefly explain NSX to the audience. He also introduced Sanjay Poonen onto stage (EUC) who I admire for his work at SAP and he announced some minor updates to View and Mirage. Of note was the acquisition of Desktone – a DAAS solution – which will mean virtual desktops delivered by a raft of business partners and this was seen as a major announcement.

I also had the pleasure of sitting with Simplivity discussing their Omnicube solution which was very impressive. The ability to have both backup and DR capabilities built into the appliance with inline dedupe make the proposal a very attractive solution offering.

I also discussed how the Pernixdata FVP solution was branching out across the world and it was my pleasure to talk to Poojan Kumar about the plans he has to branch out into Europe and maybe the UK.

The IBM stand was also very captivating with the code revised for XIV and storage enhancements. Wonder if there will be integration with VCOPS as a possible adapter to monitor storage in the near future ?

Another long Day 2 beckons but very interesting as I want to meet with other leading edge vendors. Watch this blog for more updates soon….
